HTHGS:
Shaving (written by Kelly Connell MS.Ed.)
Ask Kelly,
Just a quick question...I am in a water aerobics class and a friend asked me how
to shave the bikini line (down there) without leaving razor burn? Any good tips?
It can be rather embarrassing. Thanks
Dear Scooby,
Here are a couple tips I have picked up over the years for dealing with that
horrible problem of razor burn in the bikini area. First, Don't shave when you
wake up in the morning. While you have been sleeping fluid collects in your
extremities and that helps the razor burn develop.
Shave at night or after you have been up and moving around for a couple
of hours. Second, after you shave and get out of the tub or shower, rub some
cortisone cream over the area. You can buy this over the counter at any drug
store. That counter acts the swelling and itching and will help prevent the rash
from occurring. Third, exfoliate! use a looftah or exfoliating gloves in the
shower after you shave with some gentle shower wash. That will help get rid of
the dead skin cells that can clog pores. Lastly, you may want to consider an
alternative form of hair removal such as waxing or deploratory cream.
They do not have the same side effects and the hair removal last
longer.
Good luck! Kelly
